Known for fusing industrial methods with craft and traditional practices, the Dutch designer Hella Jongerius has undertaken a number of projects for leading furniture companies including Vitra and Artek.
After studying industrial design at the Design Academy of Eindhoven, Jongerius went on found her own studio, Jongeriuslab, in Rotterdam, where she designs textiles, furniture and crockery. In her role as Art Director at Vitra, Jongerius developed the Vitra Colour & Material Library, a system that facilitates a versatile combination of colours and materials throughout Vitra’s product collection.
Exploring the interplay of disparate elements in her work, Jongerius creates rich, multi-layered designs that have been shown at leading institutions, including London’s Design Museum, Galerie Kreo in Paris and the Moss Gallery in New York.
