‘Special is generally less useful than normal’: this statement sums up Jasper Morrison’s guiding principle for creating designs. One of the most celebrated and successful industrial designers of his generation, Morrison’s work champions pared-back functionality.

Together with his colleague Naoto Fukasawa, he defined the term ‘super normal’ – the idea that ‘good design’ is understated, useful and responsible.

Morrison, a graduate of the Kingston Polytechnic and Royal College of Art, opened his first studio in London in 1986, before going on to found additional offices in Paris and Tokyo. Morrison has many collaborations with leading design companies to his name, including Vitra, and his works are represented in MoMA and other prominent collections. In 2001 he was awarded the Royal Designer for Industry distinction by the British Royal Society of Arts.
