Ministry of Education – Health School

The Ministry of Education Health School required a larger facility, as their former location could no longer sustain the 10% increase in student population. A two-story space in Auckland City’s hub was chosen to handle the 150-180 staff and students and allow for a much larger footprint, with the ground floor measuring 488.74m2 and level one reaching 574.12m2.

As one of three of New Zealand’s health school teaching programmes, it was important to have carefully planned two leveled site areas, to ensure operational efficiency. The brief required that the project allow for maximizing operational flexibility and intuitive learning, to support the various staff and student learning styles. The new space delivered a dynamic and contemporary institution.

Spaceworks engaged Kada to deliver a variety of office furniture as they knew we had the experience and ability to provide a vast selection of products that are professionally designed, built to the highest quality and standards, while remaining cost effective. Although there was limited turnaround time, Kada was able to supply a variety of items quickly due to our range of short lead solution products.

Designed by Kada and made to order, our Modulo seating was a perfect short lead solution, enabling unlimited possibilities for The Ministry of Education Health School to create unique seating specifically suited to their two-level space. Developed with the human form in mind, the back and seat shapes are designed to ergonomic principles, therefore perfect to support and facilitate various flexible learning) styles. The project needed multiple Modulo designs spanning two levels to suit the expectations and requirements for individual space, informal meetings, and private chats.

Different furniture types helped shape a mix of environments to work and collaborate. Informal meeting areas were created in the Health School’s central areas, using Grado Mart Lounge Chairs and Sofas, with their soft edges and subtle piping detail on its border. This use of soft seating created a comfortable and elegant environment for meetings, or to simply catch up with others.

New Zealand made Evie Chairs were added to compliment the Mart Armchairs and Sofas. These chairs are comprised of a solid timber structure and were upholstered in Spaceworks’ choice of fabric, integrating the chairs into the overall design. Evie Chairs are built to last, making them ideal for busy settings, and were an excellent addition to the overall aesthetic.

Kada worked effectively and efficiently to provide a varied selection of furniture from prominent international vendors, as well as furniture designed locally. It was a pleasure to collaborate with Spaceworks to deliver a new environment for The Ministry of Education – Health School.
